Frequently Asked Questions

How long should my meta title be?
Google typically displays 50–60 characters of a page title before truncating. Aim for 50–60 characters to ensure your full title shows in search results. The most important keywords should appear near the beginning.
How long should my meta description be?
Google truncates descriptions at around 155–160 characters on desktop. Write compelling descriptions of 140–155 characters that summarise the page and include a call to action. Note that Google may rewrite your description if it thinks its snippet better answers the query.
What does the robots meta tag do?
"index, follow" (the default) tells search engines to index the page and follow its links. "noindex" prevents the page from appearing in search results. "nofollow" tells search engines not to follow links on the page. "noindex, nofollow" is used for private or duplicate content pages.
What is a canonical tag?
The canonical tag tells search engines which URL is the "official" version of a page when duplicate or near-duplicate content exists at multiple URLs. This prevents duplicate content penalties and consolidates ranking signals.
